Letitgo

This is where it all began. August 1994 in Holyhead, Anglesey. I was on holiday in North Wales and in the car, we listened to Long Wave Radio Atlantic 252, an AM station that played the hits on repeat. I kept hearing this song "Letitgo," on the radio and it really stuck in my head. After hearing it a few times I decided I wanted to buy the single. I went into Woolworths in Holyhead, (which is where I bought most of my music in my youth) and bought the CD single. My sister had "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World" on CD and I remember asking her about the name change and was his name Prince or a symbol. She didn't know. I saw The Beautiful Experience CD in the same Woolworths a few months earlier and loved the cover and nearly bought it but wasnt too keen on the song in truth, so decided against it.

I had heard of Prince before then, mostly Diamonds & Pearls era songs such as "Gett Off", "Cream", and later some Symbol album tracks "My Name Is Prince", and "7" but was never really interested in Prince. I found him too weird at that point and I was too young to understand what he was doing.

So, I got the "Letitgo" CD single and listened to it on repeat, as always spending a lot of time examining the artwork and wondering what the Come album was like. The extra tracks on the CD didn't really interest me, again, too weird for my 12 year old brain.

I saw Come on cassette a few days later and had a look at it, I was intrigued by decided against buying it. My Prince-fandom didn't really kick in until early 1995, but "Letitgo" was the begining of my journey.
